Summary: It's about 3 different kids, taking refuge in 3 different times. Josef is a Jewish boy in 1930s escaping the Nazis and is going on a ship to Cuba, Isabel is a Cuban girl in 1994 going to El North, (U.S.A) on a boat And Mahmoud is a Syrian boy in 2015 escaping the war in Syria and is going to Germany by car & sail boat.

Why are the character(s) doing etc: The characters are trying to help their families, and lots of problems happens, Josef's dad got out of jail, (because he's Jewish) Isabel's mother is expecting, Mahmoud & his family are worried about getting away from Syria. Josef's father isn't brave anymore, the boats stops working a lot for Isabel, Mahmoud has to give his sister away otherwise she'll drown in the water. Did I mention someone goes overboard? But they all have one goal in common, to get to a better & safer place.


How do you think the character(s) are like: All of the characters seems like they would be nice in real life, Josef seems brave even though he isn't, Isabel is hopeful even when it doesn't look like they'll reach America, & Mahmoud has to see a lot of things a person should never witness ever, at all.

Why did you read this book? I read this book, because I like reading a lot of historical fiction books, I learn a lot of things of history from reading actually.


What lesson or thing have you learned from this book? I learned that through hard things, when things seem impossible, and when things go wrong, you can always depend on hope. And just with hope the hard things become easier, the impossible things become possible. and the things that go wrong will then go right.


Would you recommend this book? I would recommend this book, to people who love history & fiction.
